How to Keep the Heat in and the Harsh Winter Air Outside

Just when you thought your office was getting to be the perfect temperature, you find yourself sitting in the Arctic Tundra! While it might keep you alert and awake, it’s a pain to dress in layers every day because you have to guess what the climate of the office will be. If this is a recurring issue for you, maybe it’s time to consider some other options. Here are a few ideas of how to keep the office warm this winter.

1. Rugs

Not only can you keep your office warm with this solution, but you can also spruce it up a bit. By adding rugs or carpeting to your space you can keep hot air from escaping through the floors. So add a chic, plush rug to the office and you might find yourself staying warmer, longer.

2. Thick Curtains

Make that well fitted and thick. Curtains can help keep the cold air from the windows from invading your office or having the warm air get out through the spaces in the window. Also, make sure you are opening and closing them when you should be. Let the light in during the day to allow the sunlight to warm up the area, and close them at night to trap that warm same air in!

3. Fireplace plug

Fireplaces can make an office feel cozy, that is until you find out that all of your heat is escaping through it. Investing in a fireplace plug can keep your cozy atmosphere, without causing you to keep an extra jacket at your desk.

4. Reverse the ceiling fan’s direction

This might sound crazy but hang in there a second. Reversing your fan’s direction from counterclockwise to clockwise can actually keep your office warmer longer. This will pull the cold air up and push the warm air back down. Who said fans are just for keeping you cool?

5. Double glazed windows

A lot of windows in the office gives it a great aesthetic, but in terms of keeping an office warm, it’s not the best. A costly but efficient way to keep the warm air inside is to double glaze your windows. The gaps in-between the glass causes heat loss, but with the double glazing technique, you can seal them up! So, keep that nice, warm air inside and enjoy the view too.

6. Insulation…Everywhere

If all else fails, it’s probably time to insulate your office. If you are located in New England winters can be tough and they won’t be getting easier any time soon. Insulating your walls, ceilings and floors can make a big difference and save you a lot of money and energy in the long-run.
