Peter Suneson is the head of our Paint Division. In the summer of 1994, before he went to college, Peter started painting commercial properties. After college, he went on to pursue a career in teaching for 15 years. However, he spent his summer breaks painting. After 15 years of teaching, he got a leadership role in the painting industry and never looked back! It was the vast number of opportunities to learn and problem-solve that made him switch back to a career in painting. “There is much more to protecting and beautifying substrates than I realized when I painted in the summers,” Peter says.
30 Years of Painting & Problem Solving.
Since he started 30 years ago, Peter Suneson has held many positions, from Painter, Project Manager, Director of Operations, VP of Training and Development, VP of Operations and now, head of the Paint Division. Though most of his painting career has been with re:fab, he has worked for other smaller painting contractors and even one of our competitors.
Peter Suneson is well versed in both coatings and renovation work. If he had to narrow it down to just two, then he would say sealants and aerial access (lifts and staging for high-rises and tough to reach spots). Peter is a great problem solver, which is why it comes as no surprise that he is great at solving access problems on job sites. From figuring out how to paint complex high-rises and how to paint the side of the building bordered by a body of water, Peter takes on any difficult project and makes it look so easy!
Painting is the Name, But Safety is the Game.
Safety is always a top priority, especially when painting in those hard-to-reach spaces. Peter is a Certified OSHA instructor; this is very important to him and re:fab. It is important to take safety seriously and keep it top of mind, so not only are our crews safe on the job, but your teams, customers and families are just as safe, too! In the past 30 years, Peter has managed multiple 7-figure nationwide projects, keeping safety a top priority.
When asked what the most memorable project he has worked on, he said, “we were painting a very large distribution center outside of Savanna, GA. This distribution center had a 50ft high penthouse on the roof of the base building where we had to use swing staging to access all four sides during hurricane season. With multiple hurricane warnings during the two months, we had this equipment we had to mobilize and remobilize multiple times by craning the equipment on and off the roof to maintain the safety and integrity of the project.” Not only was it hurricane season, but working in the extremely hot summer Georgia weather was no joke on that rooftop. It was also important to hydrate and protect against high sun exposure. Wow, and we thought paintable weather in New England was challenging!
Helping Clients Daily!
When helping clients, new or current, Peter believes that talking to them face-to-face whenever possible is the best way to build a relationship and help them with their painting project. He is always honest with clients, even when it’s hard to do so. Being candid and yourself when talking to clients is very important in building client trust.
Peter’s favorite paint color is anything except Urbane Bronze and Repose Grey, as they both seem to be everywhere lately!
When you go with re:fab, you’re not going with the average New England painting contractor, you’re going with a team that has over 150 years of painting experience. You’re going with honesty and clarity throughout all stages of your project. We’re a team that will work on your project every day until it’s finished. Our team will ensure that they are proud of the work they produce, but you are proud of the final product as well. That’s what Peter loves about working at re:fab, but it’s also what he brings to re:fab and his clients.
