From colors and design trends in 2024, this coming year is predicted to be a year where we get back down to Earth with our choices. Reasons why, are the environmental, mental and physical health, and lifestyle and culture shifts.
Colors of the Years
Pantone:
Pantone is the color industry’s primary color management system. They deal with trends not just in paint color and design, but also in graphic design, fashion and all aspects of the color design world! They named the color Peach Fuzz as the 2024 Color of the Year! This color fits in with the trends of more earthy tones becoming on-trend. Peach Fuzz is a warm color that goes great with lighter, earthy tones. Read more about this color here.
Sherwin-Williams:
Sherwin-Williams is the Nation’s leading brand of paint! They base their Color of the Year choices off of paint color sales and where the trends are in the market. This year, Sherwin-Willam’s Color of the Year is Upward Blue! This blue is light and airy. It reminds us of a French country cottage, which is a design look that is trending overall. Behr Paint:
Behr is keeping it edgy in 2024 with their Color of the Year being Cracked Pepper! Cracked Pepper is a moody black. Perfect for creating an ambiance in any room! Our very own Peter R. painted an accent wall in his bedroom this color, and it not only modernized his bedroom, but still brightened the room when paired with a super light gray. Benjamin Moore:
Benjamin Moore picked Blue Nova as their Color of the Year. It’s very similar to the Sherwin-Willams’ Upward Blue. It’s bright and airy, yet darker and a bit moodier. It goes great with light colors like White Dove and even dark colors like Regent Green. Learn more about Blue Nova here.
2024 Renovation Trends
Sustainable Living:
Designers are increasingly prioritizing eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient appliances and green building practices. From repurposing old furniture to incorporating recycled materials, the focus is on reducing environmental impact and creating homes that contribute positively to the planet. We’re also seeing an increase in electric car ports and even solar panels.
Smart Spaces, Smarter Renovations:
The integration of smart space technology continues to be a dominant trend in 2024. Designers are embracing automation and connectivity to enhance convenience, security and energy efficiency, and to add value to the space. From smart lighting and thermostats to advanced security systems, renovations are incorporating the latest technologies to create homes that respond to our needs with a touch or a voice command.
Flexible Spaces:
The concept of dedicated rooms with fixed purposes is evolving. Homeowners and property managers are opting for flexible and multifunctional spaces that can adapt to different needs. Open floor plans, movable partitions and convertible furniture are gaining popularity, allowing rooms to transform seamlessly from work to play or from tenant to tenant.
Biophilic Design:
Bringing the outdoors inside is a trend that’s flourishing in 2024. Biophilic design principles are being applied to create spaces that foster a connection with nature. Think indoor gardens, natural materials and large windows that maximize natural light. The result is a harmonious blend of the built environment and the natural world, promoting well-being and relaxation. Mixing natural materials can look great, such as real wooden cabinets with quartz or marble stone counters and backsplash.
Vintage Revival:
Nostalgia meets modernity in the renovation trends of 2024. Designers are rediscovering the charm of vintage and retro styles, incorporating classic elements into contemporary designs. From mid-century modern furniture to Victorian-era fixtures, the blending of old and new creates a unique and timeless aesthetic that stands out in the world of interior design.
Wellness Spaces:
The focus on holistic well-being is transforming spaces into wellness havens. People are investing in features like steam showers, aromatherapy systems and ergonomic kitchen designs that prioritize health and relaxation. The idea is to create spaces that contribute to both physical and mental well-being.
