Healthcare Painting

The paint in your healthcare facility speaks volumes. From paint color to commercial coatings, professional painters can help bring your facility back to life. re:fab’s painters provide you with upgraded paint selections to make your facility more efficient. The process starts with an estimate, giving you the options available for your facility and the schedule it will take to get it done.
Healthcare facilities are an important part of the community, and they need to be taken care of as such. Healthcare Painting keeps patients and staff members safe is of top priority. We handle the planning and the scheduling, only seeking your ideas and approval for the project. We don’t take you away from what matters most – your patients.

Paint is the Most Important Detail

Even though it may seem like the other details that go into healthcare painting are more important, the paint really is the make it or break it factor. The paint determines the look, the feel, and the safety of the entire facility. Patients pay attention to how nice the paint on the building’s exterior is before they ever pull into the parking lot. There is a lot of pressure laid on administrators, beginning with the paint!

New Paint Changes the Look

Over time paint can become damaged or faded, especially in healthcare settings where there is a lot of traffic. Doors bump into the wall creating dents, dings, and scrapes, or chairs rub the surface. Sometimes the exterior can suffer because of inclement weather patterns or just because of the age of the paint on the building.
The old paint can change the way that patients feel about your facility. They want the best when it comes to their healthcare, and if the building can’t be properly maintained, they may doubt the provider’s expertise.
Commercial painters can change how your patients view your healthcare facility. We handle all the fixes, preparation, and take care of the painting. Your building comes out looking new, and you can change the way your patients view you.

The Color Enhances the Feel

Color Psychology is the idea that color can change emotions and feelings. The color choices used in healthcare painting are often chosen based on the area and the specialty service of that area. Making the right color selection can change the entire feel of the surroundings for both your patients and staff.

Patient Rooms and Waiting Areas

When you think about home, what are the hues that come to mind? For most, the warm and neutral tones of pale colors and beige seem to bring feelings of calm. The areas that patients and their families need the most amount of calm are in the patient rooms and waiting areas. Some facilities may swap out the monotone paint selections and choose lighter shades of yellows, greens, or blues, or create an accent wall with one of these colors.

Employee Areas

Throughout healthcare facilities, doctors, nurses, and support staff have their own areas to rest and regroup. Depending on the purpose of the room, the paint color may differ. In areas where employees are trying to get a quick pick-me-up and regroup their thoughts, bright colors can promote these types of energetic feelings. For those areas that are used for resting or even sleeping during double shifts, darker colors can create a more restful environment.

Operating Rooms

The traditional operating room colors are blue or green. Not only do these colors help to neutralize the color red, but they also help with a phenomenon called afterimages. Afterimages occur when you look at one color for an extended period of time and look away, seeing spots of the complementary color in your vision field.

Specialty Services

Specialty services in the healthcare setting are areas like pediatrics, obstetrics, and burn units. These often have their own color scheme. For example, pediatrics floors may utilize the same colors found in popular toys. Bright reds, blues, greens, and yellows are often found resembling the bright building blocks kids love to play with. Obstetrics and nursery areas may take advantage of using pastel colors, much like those colors associated with babies.

New Paint Increases Safety

The paints used in residential projects and the types you would find in the hardware stores often contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are what give some paints their hazardous fumes and odors, requiring use in well-ventilated areas only. These types of paint are not conducive to a safe environment, especially to patients and staff.
The air quality and ventilation required when handling a paint job of this size require planning to ensure that proper ventilation is considered. Fumes and odors from the paint can be hazardous to patients and staff’s health, especially those who are sensitive to them.
Scheduling is often important when trying to handle paint and the hazards they can pose. re:fab offers flexibility in scheduling, making it possible to complete the project during lower traffic hours or weekends. We are willing to do whatever it takes to get your job completed and with your satisfaction.

Low-to-No VOC Paint

There are paints available that give off little to no VOCs. These paints give off little to no odor or fumes. They are great for use in healthcare settings, but they aren’t completely safe. These types of paints may still contain some VOCs, which can produce fumes that may irritate some patients or even staff members.

Antimicrobial and Microbicidal Paint

These paints have additives added to the paint during the manufacturing process that make them resistant to microbes. The microbicidal paints are made to kill bacteria that cause infection. Statistics show that four in 100 patients contract at least one infection associated with their healthcare stay. Microbicidal paints are one of the best choices a painter and facility can make.

Exterior Healthcare Painting

The exterior of the building is just as important as the interior. There are two types of exterior paint commonly used for painting building exteriors. These paints are oil-based and latex. When an oil-based paint is used on a building, it cannot be covered with latex, or it will cause the latex to peel.
When preparing a building for exterior painting, commercial painters often remove as much of the remaining paint as possible. Pressure washing is used to help remove peeling paint and make sure the exterior of the building is clean before painting. The cleanliness helps the paint adhere better to the building.
If you aren’t sure what type of paint your building’s exterior has, you can do your own test by peeling off a large chip of paint. If the paint seems to bend prior to breaking, it is likely a latex or acrylic-based paint. Oil-based paint tends to snap immediately when you try to bend it.
When you hire a commercial painter to handle your exterior paint renovation, they will be able to tell you what type of paint is on the exterior. They will also recommend the best paint option for you to go with.

Choosing the Right Commercial Painters

When you need to find a commercial painter that can paint your healthcare facility, there are some general rules you should follow. Not all commercial painters are professionals. Checking the legitimacy of a company before using them for your painting project can save you money.
A true commercial painting company will have the proper licensing and insurance. This is including liability coverage, to cover large commercial jobs like a healthcare facility. When you do not verify this information, you can leave yourself open to paying a fraudulent company and then pay another company to fix it. You then pay even more for the healthcare facility’s paint.
