Add some local flair!
If you are from Southern MA, then you should know this property very well! In a world filled with online shopping and empty malls, this brick-and-mortar complex still has over 60 stores and it’s nearly full! With the whole town being a large shopping hub, nearby big box stores also see higher than normal sales compared to other locations.
It is important to stay relevant and keep vacancy rates down with constant property improvements. With growing retail sites in nearby cities such as Fall River, New Bedford and Wareham, this mall needs to keep it’s property looking fresh and make it local.
So, they called re:fab to help them with a refresh before the 2023 holiday shopping season. The exterior of this large building needed some work before we started repainting it. This scope included repairs, plastering, cement and brickwork and a deep pressure washing of the whole exterior. re:fab was able to do it all and then do the painting, too!
These updated color choices brought this mall into 2024! We used Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint® to keep this building looking nice and fresh for years.
Though this might seem like an easy job, keep in mind this mall is a busy, active mall. Extra safety measures were taken so our crews were safe from oncoming traffic. This included closing lanes and parking spots in the lot to ensure that our crews could safely repair and repaint. Our team also worked with the mall and tenants to minimize disruptions when working in the receiving bays.
All in all, we completed this project fast and in time for the holiday shopping season, where the mall is at its busiest!
Now, add some local art!
One of our favorite highlights about this job is what the mall did to keep it local! They not only hired a local contractor, but also hired a local artist, Roxanne Blackmore, or Rox Art to paint some whale-themed murals on some of the exterior walls. The whale theme is a great nod to the area’s well-known whaling and fishing industries. This local artist captures it so beautifully and will be doing more murals this year, as well! Awesome work, Roxanne!
In order for Roxanne to paint the murals, we had to do a LOT of prep work. We removed one of the walls medallions, installed a new EIFS system and resurfaced both walls to remove imperfections.
